I started researching the St Clairs some time ago, but let the project
lay, and this is what I have from William the Seemly to the first Earl
of Caithness, ancestor of the present Chief and Earl.

Also, it would seem that William the Seemly and his son took on the
position of Gospatric in governing the southern borders.
